Mechs and Late-Game Units
Mechs are confirmed battlefield units in Pax Autocratica, but Multiverse states they are absent from the free Prologue. What is known and what is not.
Mechs occupy an unusual position in what is currently known about Pax Autocratica: they are confirmed to exist, and they are confirmed to be absent from the version you can play right now.
That combination makes this one of the few pages on this wiki that describes content nobody outside Multiverse has tested.
What Is Confirmed
Section titled “What Is Confirmed”Multiverse describes combat that escalates “from desperate skirmishes to large-scale mechanised warfare”, and names three unit types that appear on the battlefield: infantry, tanks and mechs.
That is the complete confirmed record. Mechs exist, they are battlefield-scale units, and they belong to the upper end of the escalation curve rather than the opening hours.
Why They Are Missing From the Prologue
Section titled “Why They Are Missing From the Prologue”The free Prologue has been on Steam since December 2025, which means most of this game’s systems are testable today. Mechs are one of the specific exceptions.
Multiverse’s own notes on the Prologue name three things it does not include:
| Excluded from Prologue | Status |
|---|---|
| Deeper automation | See automation |
| Mechs | This page |
| Other late-game mechanics | Unspecified by Multiverse |
The Prologue also runs at a smaller base scale and smaller battle scale than Early Access will. Since mechs are tied to the large-scale end of combat, their absence is consistent with that reduced scale rather than being an arbitrary cut.
This matters for anyone reading guides right now. Are mechs in the free Pax Autocratica Prologue? No — so any guide describing how mechs handle, what they cost, or how to unlock them is describing something the author could not have played.
Can You Pilot a Mech in Pax Autocratica?
Section titled “Can You Pilot a Mech in Pax Autocratica?”Not confirmed. This is the single most common question about the game’s mechs and it does not have an answer yet.
The known facts allow at least three readings, and Multiverse has endorsed none of them:
- The player pilots a mech directly, changing the first-person combat entirely
- Mechs are troops you command, sitting alongside the existing ability to order units into battle or spend them as expendable shields
- Mechs are primarily enemy units encountered at higher battle scales
The game is a first-person roguelite shooter in which you fight alongside your troops, so a commanded-unit reading is not unreasonable. But reasonable is not confirmed, and this wiki does not print guesses as facts.
What Is Not Known
Section titled “What Is Not Known”How many mechs are in Pax Autocratica? Not announced by Multiverse. Nor is anything else about them.
Specifically unpublished: mech names, classes, weapon loadouts, armour values, production cost, research prerequisites, whether they require manufacturing capacity in your colony, whether they are crewed by citizens, whether losing one is permanent, and whether cores interact with them at all.
Any source giving you a mech list or a mech tier ranking is inventing it. There is no public information to build one from.
What You Can Actually Test Today
Section titled “What You Can Actually Test Today”You cannot test mechs. You can test the combat foundation they will be built on top of, which is a better use of the time before Early Access.
The Prologue gives you the full first-person combat loop, core collection, troop commands, and the bullet-hell density of bullets, lasers, missiles, drones and artillery. Understanding how troop commands feel at small scale is the closest available preparation for mechanised warfare at large scale.
Note also that Multiverse states Prologue balance may change before Early Access — see Prologue vs Early Access for the full comparison.
