Pax Autocratica Crash and Bug Fixes

What Multiverse has officially fixed in Pax Autocratica, its own three-step crash fix, and what 2,255 player reviews still report - with counts.

Pax Autocratica launched into Early Access on August 10, 2026, and Multiverse shipped its first patch the next day. This page separates two things that most sites blur together: what Multiverse has officially fixed, and what players are still reporting — with counts, so you can tell a widespread problem from one person’s bad night.

The player figures below come from 2,255 Steam reviews as of August 19, 2026 - effectively the full population at that date. Nothing here is a personal play report; it is an aggregate of what reviewers wrote, and every claim says how many reviews back it.

Multiverse’s patch, titled “State Maintenance Directive”, fixed all of the following. If you are still hitting one of these, you are on an outdated build.

Fixed issue Why it mattered
Save data could fail to save correctly under certain conditions Lost progress. The single most important entry on the list
The Leader could be unable to leave the Office A softlock — the run could not continue
The Toxic Fog Core could not be triggered against the Tree of Asherah in its final phase A Core was dead weight in a boss fight
Objective count wrong on the quest Prepare for Auryto Quest tracker showed the wrong number
Building models displayed incorrectly in the tutorial battle Visual
Models displayed incorrectly during battles Visual
Lightning effects on the Sattleri Energist Visual

If you played on launch day and have not restarted Steam since, update first. The save-data fix is the reason: it is the one issue on that list that can cost you hours rather than annoy you.

Official patch announcement

This is the most useful thing on this page, because it comes from the developer rather than from aggregated reviews.

What does Multiverse officially recommend if the game crashes?

Three steps, published on August 13, 2026: verify your game files through Steam, turn Super Resolution (DLSS) off, and turn Frame Generation off. Multiverse said these have resolved the issue for many players. If the problem persists the developer asks players to make contact directly through the official Discord so the specific case can be investigated.

In the official wording, from the August 13, 2026 announcement:

  1. Verify your game files through Steam — Steam Library → Pax Autocratica → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files
  2. If Super Resolution (DLSS) is enabled, turn it OFF
  3. If Frame Generation is enabled, turn it OFF

The second and third steps are the ones worth acting on first, because they are non-obvious and they line up with what the patch notes show. Multiverse fixed a crash caused by FSR Frame Generation in Borderless mode on August 12, then made an attempted fix for crashes caused by enabling FSR on August 15 — the word “attempted” is Multiverse’s own. Upscaling and frame generation are, by the developer’s own record, this game’s most likely crash source.

So if you are crashing and running DLSS, FSR or frame generation, turn them off before doing anything else. PC optimization and settings covers what else the graphics menu exposes.

Multiverse also asks players still affected after those three steps to report the specific case directly rather than assume it is known. The announcement links the official Discord for that purpose.

Three patches have shipped, and several issues reported on this page in the first days are now fixed. Full detail on patch notes; the crash and save-related entries are:

Fixed Patch
Save data could fail to save correctly August 11
Leader could be unable to leave the Office (softlock) August 11
Automatic save backups added — previous saves preserved after a crash, blue screen or freeze August 12
Certain actions could cause save loading to fail August 12
Crash during the Scourgeborn Arena battle August 12
Crash using FSR Frame Generation in Borderless mode August 12
Freeze when opening an interface while being electrocuted August 12
Building models broken on Windows using the Turkish locale August 12
Attempted fix for crashes caused by enabling FSR August 15
Battle results interface could not be opened August 15

The August 12 automatic save backup is the single most valuable entry for anyone who has lost progress: it does not stop crashes, but it stops a crash from costing you the save file.

Still open, stated by Multiverse: pressing V does not properly open the battle stats interface (declared a known issue on August 12).

None of the following appears in any official announcement. These are aggregate community reports, listed with counts so you can weigh them.

Does Pax Autocratica crash a lot?

Crashes are reported but they are not the majority experience. Of 2,255 player reviews as of August 19, 2026, 39 mention crashing at all - about 1.7 percent - and most describe one or two crashes across many hours rather than constant instability. The rate is essentially unchanged from a week earlier, when it was 10 of 683. What has changed is that Multiverse published an official three-step fix on August 13 and has declared crashes a Day 1 priority for the whole of Early Access.

Two details are worth more than the count. First, crashes carry the highest negative share of any topic in the sample: 10 of the 39 mentions sit in reviews that did not recommend the game. Few people hit this, but the ones who do hold it against the game more than any other complaint. Second, one reviewer described a specific, plausible trigger: crashes when Cores, orbs, toxic spawns and an alt-fire ability stacked at once, which they read as too many overlapping effects for one ability to process. That is a single report, not a confirmed bug — but if you are crashing during heavy effect stacking rather than at random, it is a pattern worth noting when you file a report.

Does Pax Autocratica work on Steam Deck?

Player reports are mixed and Valve has not given it a Verified rating. Reviews report it running at roughly 40-50 FPS with adjusted graphics, but two specific problems come up: the resolution can break in Desktop mode, and the virtual keyboard may not work, which blocks the name entry needed to start a game. Playing in Gaming mode avoids the resolution problem.

The virtual keyboard report is the more serious one, because name entry happens before you can start playing at all — a player who hits it cannot get into the game.

Multiverse has since acknowledged it. The August 13, 2026 announcement lists the “Steam Deck virtual keyboard issue” among specific requests “already being worked on or investigated” — the developer’s first and only public comment on Steam Deck. No fix has shipped in the three patches to date, and no date was given. The resolution problem in Desktop mode was not mentioned. See controller support for what the store page does and does not list.

Controller prompts that do not match — 2 reviews

Section titled “Controller prompts that do not match — 2 reviews”

One reviewer reported the tutorial telling them to press a button on an Xbox controller to open equipment, and to use the shoulder buttons to navigate, with neither working — they had to switch to keyboard. This is below this wiki’s three-report threshold for stating something as a community-wide issue, so treat it as one person’s experience rather than a known bug. It is recorded here only because it has a concrete workaround: use the keyboard for menu navigation if the controller prompts do not respond.

Two reviewers described lighting on characters and objects as visibly broken, one of them strongly. Again below the three-report threshold, and purely cosmetic.

This deserves its own section because it cuts against what people expect from an Early Access launch. Of 72 reviews that discuss performance or optimisation, 9 are negative - a 13 percent negative share, low for an Early Access launch. Reviewers report figures like 165 FPS at 4K on high settings and 100+ FPS in base and combat, and several describe it as well optimised.

That is worse than it looked a week ago, when the count was 22 mentions with a single negative. The honest reading is that the near-perfect early figure was a small-sample artefact, not that performance degraded: the patches in between contained no performance regressions, and stuttering reports remain a minority inside a majority-positive topic.

So if your problem is stuttering rather than crashing, the aggregate suggests it is more likely to be a local configuration issue than a widespread flaw in the game. PC optimization and settings covers what Multiverse has and has not published about graphics options.

Ordinary PC troubleshooting, in the order that costs you the least time:

  1. Update the game. Three patches have shipped since launch, including a save-data fix and automatic save backups. This is first for a reason.
  2. Turn off DLSS / FSR and Frame Generation — Multiverse’s own recommendation, and the crash source its own patch notes point at most often.
  3. Restart Steam completely.
  4. Verify integrity of game files in Steam — also one of Multiverse’s three official steps.
  5. Update your GPU drivers.
  6. Reboot Windows.
  7. If the problem is loading-related, do a clean reinstall rather than only updating — see the precedent below.

The August 3 Precedent: When a Reinstall Was the Official Answer

Section titled “The August 3 Precedent: When a Reinstall Was the Official Answer”

This is not a guess about what might help. It already happened once, to this game, three weeks before launch.

  • On August 2, 2026, a Prologue update left many players unable to play, stuck on the loading screen, or facing much longer load times.
  • On August 3, 2026, Multiverse published a hotfix and said the issue was resolved.
  • Multiverse’s own recommendation was to completely uninstall and freshly reinstall rather than only updating.

If a loading-related problem appears after a future patch, that is the clearest official precedent for what the developer will tell you to do.

Stated plainly so you know where the edges are:

  • No official known-issues list has been published for the Early Access build.
  • No command-line launch options have been documented.
  • No official minimum frame rate target, and no DLSS, FSR or ray tracing support is listed.
  • No Steam Deck Verified rating has been assigned.

Multiverse’s launch announcement pointed players at the in-game feedback tool, the Steam forums and the official community channels. Bug reports go to the developer, not to this wiki — this page only tracks what has been publicly reported and publicly fixed.

What has Multiverse officially fixed in Pax Autocratica?

The August 11, 2026 patch, titled State Maintenance Directive, fixed a save-data failure, a softlock that could trap the Leader in the Office, a boss-fight bug where the Toxic Fog Core could not be triggered against the Tree of Asherah, incorrect models in the tutorial battle and in combat, a lightning effect on the Sattleri Energist, and a wrong objective count on the quest Prepare for Auryto. Two further patches followed on August 12 and August 15, adding automatic save backups and fixing several crashes and freezes.

Can Pax Autocratica lose your save?

It could on the launch build. Multiverse’s August 11, 2026 patch fixed an issue where save data could fail to save correctly under certain conditions. If you played on the launch-day build and have not updated since, update before your next session.
