Pax Autocratica Guide: How to Play & Where to Start

Pax Autocratica guide built on confirmed facts: how the colony, citizen and combat layers feed each other, what to do first and which guides to distrust.

How to play Pax Autocratica, in one line: build a totalitarian colony, keep its citizens working through fear or comfort, then lead your own troops into first-person roguelite battles in the Tyris System and bring back resources, recruits and prisoners. Where to start is below, and every guide on this site is built from Multiverse’s own published information, with unannounced details labelled rather than invented.

Pax Autocratica is three games stacked on top of each other, and understanding how they feed each other is most of what a guide can usefully tell you now that Early Access has launched.

This hub gives you the shape. The pages underneath give you the detail, and the beginner guide gives you a first session.

You build a colony and assign citizens to jobs. Those jobs produce weapons, armour, food and supplies. Then you personally take troops out into the Tyris System, fight first-person roguelite battles, and come home with resources, conscripted citizens and captured prisoners. The prisoners become citizens. The citizens work. Meanwhile, how you have been governing them determines whether the colony you keep leaving stays loyal or turns on you. If that sounds abstract, start with the beginner guide and then split the loop into the mechanics hub for colony/citizen systems and the combat hub for expeditions and cores.

Assign citizens to mine, gather, haul, research and manufacture. Manufacturing produces weapons, armour, food and supplies. A deeper automation system exists in the full game and is absent from the Prologue. → Colony building and jobs

Rule through fear, propaganda, surveillance and punishment, or through comfort and prosperity. Citizens become grateful, afraid, loyal or quietly rebellious, and dissent escalates until it becomes revolt. → Citizen management · Rebellions · Prisoners and conversion

First-person roguelite battles beside your own troops, escalating to infantry, tanks and mechs, with bullet-hell projectile patterns from elite enemies, bosses and Sector Overlords. Collect Weapon Cores and Combination Cores during each expedition. → Combat · Cores · Weapons · Sector Overlords · Expeditions

The genuinely useful advice for a game two weeks from launch is unusual here: stop reading guides and install the free Prologue.

Pax Autocratica: Prologue has been free and stand-alone on Steam since December 1, 2025. It holds a Very Positive rating from 144 reviews. It contains all three layers above. Nothing on this site — or any site — beats an evening with the actual build.

What it does not contain is documented: deeper automation, mechs, and other late-game mechanics, plus smaller base and battle scale. See Prologue vs Early Access.

A quick reliability test, since search results for this game are unusually polluted.

Warning signs. Turn counts, tax rates, cabinet appointments or coalition politics — none of these systems exist in this game. Specific loyalty or rebellion thresholds. “Best core builds” with named cores. A count of Sector Overlords. Claims that co-op is playable — it is an official Early Access development goal, not a shipped feature.

Good signs. The guide distinguishes Prologue content from Early Access content. It says “not announced” where things are unknown. It names Weapon Cores, Combination Cores, the Tyris System and Elysia correctly.

The reason so many guides fail this test is that the game was easy to mistake for a political strategy title from its name and premise. It is a colony sim welded to a first-person shooter.

Three practical pages for the purchase decision, all built on confirmed facts:

Is there a Pax Autocratica guide yet?

Yes, for systems that are already playable. The free Prologue has been public since December 2025, so the core loop can be documented honestly. Late-game systems cannot.

How do you play Pax Autocratica?

You build a totalitarian colony, assign citizens to jobs, shape their mood through fear or comfort, then run first-person roguelite expeditions into the Tyris System for resources and recruits.

What should a new player do first in Pax Autocratica?

Install the free Prologue rather than reading pre-release guides. It contains colony building, citizen management, prisoner conversion, expeditions and combat with cores at no cost.

Are Pax Autocratica guides with specific numbers reliable?

No. Multiverse has published no thresholds, core counts, boss counts or production rates, and states Prologue balance may change before Early Access.

  • Beginner guide - a first-session route based on systems already playable in the free Prologue.
  • Prologue - confirms what you can still test for free alongside the paid release.
  • Combat - explains the first-person roguelite half of the game and how troops, cores and battles connect.
